2nd Annual Open Studios at Porter Mill, Beverly, MA
Amy Roberts will be participating in Open Studios, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm with a reception at 5:00 - 7:00 pm on June 16.

Artists Anonymous Group Show at the Beverly Farms Library
Brenda Rangel is participating in this group show of Rockport Artists being hosted at the Beverly Farms Library. The opening reception is June 14, 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

"From the Garden", a summer show at Gallery Della Piana in Wenham, MA will be featuring work from both local and national artists. Robin Samiljan and Carmela Martin both have works in the show. The opening reception is June 21, 4:00 - 6:00pm. The show runs from June 21 - August 25, 2012.

We are pleased to announce the 2012 Swampscott High School scholarship winner awarded to graduating senior, Ye Xiong. Our criteria was: "A student who has been accepted and is planning to attend art school in the fall. The winner will have demonstrated a commitment and passion toward the creative process and the arts." Congratulations, Ye!

Spring Events Summary
Last night was the opening reception for the SAA Spring Show at Marian Court College. We were pleased to see works from both new and old members. The show runs from May 3 - 24 in Mercy Center at Marian Court College on Little's Point in Swampscott, MA.
The award winners were not all present at the reception however below you can view the award winning pieces:
First prize - "Kimono", oil, Ellen Grand Pre
Second prize - "North American River Otters", oil, Dimetrious Athas
Honorable Mention - "Climbing Great Sand Dunes", photo, Marilyn Cloran

Other News:
One of our members, Carmela Martin, is having a show with her sister Barbara in the Beverly Farms Library, May 2 - 30, 2012.
"Carmela Martin and Barbara DiCaprio present an exhibit of their recent paintings in pastel and acrylic. The sisters share a love of painting and encourage each other in their artistic journeys. However, each has followed her own creative path. Barbara’s style focuses on strong color, pattern, and design in painting the still life and landscape pieces seen in her collection. Carmela’s landscapes present the beauty and serenity of the places that captivate her and invite the viewer on a journey of imagination and discovery".
All are invited to a reception with the artists on Thursday, May 17th, from 6-8:30pm at the Beverly Farms Library.
Last month was our second and final demo of the spring season and Carolyn Latanision had a full house in attendance. She demonstrated working wet on dry with watercolor and creating depth and layers of color in sky.
Our next event will be the summer show, hosted in the Gallery at Grosvenor Park, Salem, MA, July 8 - Augist 9, 2012.

Demo with Carolyn Lantanision
The SAA is proud to announce the second demo of the Spring season. Carolyn Lantanision will be demonstrating watercolor techniques in landscape painting. She has donated these 4 small giclee prints of her work to be raffled off at the demo.

Carolyn Latanision, a member of the National Watercolor Society, is a nationally recognized artist working primarily in water media, exploring its unique challenges and possibilities. She has been distinguished with invitational memberships to national societies including the Hudson Valley Art Association, and National Association of Women Artists. The Pennsylvania Watercolor society has honored her with inclusion in their Sylvan Grouse Guild. Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in NYC has three times awarded her their Medal of Honor for Watercolor at the National Arts Club. She is a Copley Master in the Copley Society of Art, Boston, and a member of Rockport Art Association. She has also exhibited with The American Watercolor Society. Her awards are numerous, and her work is included in more than 30 corporate collections.
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served, and we will be raffling Carolyn's prints to attendees.
To reach the center on Essex Road in Swampscott, drive around the high school building and enter at the rear. There is a sign on Essex St. for the school/senior center.

Demo updates
Elissa Della-Piana with a few of her artist journals and books

Last week we had quite a successful turnout for Elissa Della-Piana's demo. We learned about artist journals and books, layout and sketching. Our next demo is scheduled for Thursday, April 19, 7pm back at the Swampscott Senior Center with Carolyn Lantanision. Carolyn will demonstrate and talk about watercolor landscape painting, specific focus on layering sky. More info to follow.

Demo with Elissa Della Piana

The Swampscott Arts Association will be hosting an art demonstration with Elissa Della Piana on Thursday March 8, 7pm at the Swampscott Senior Center. Elissa is owner of Gallery Della-Piana on Route 1A in Wenham, Ma.
A RISD graduate in the 1960's, Elissa (Scott) Della-Piana's career in the arts spans Exhibition Design, Theater, Illustration, and Fine Art. With over 40 years of teaching art (Illustration, Graphics, Fashion, History, Drawing) in many schools and colleges, she is recently retired from Montserrat College of Art. Her own work encompasses Licensed products in Natural Science and Fashion Illustration themes, and a personal obsession with intensive observational drawing. At the demo, Elissa will be talking about keeping journals, notebooks, and sketchbooks.
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served, and we will be raffling off one of Elissa's prints to attendees.

SAA Winter Show
The SAA winter show is now open and runs until February 1, 2012.
Gallery hours: weekdays 9am - 7pm, weekends 10am - 6pm.
