Fall show recap

Our beautiful fall show opened on Sept. 23rd, and judges Elaine Daly and George Martin had a difficult time picking winners from the 50 plus entries. The award winning selections were:
1st place: Noreen Nelson, "Dad", multimedia collage
2nd place: Robin Samiljan, "Tall Trees", encaustic
3rd Place: Gladys Poor, "Eastern Point, Gloucester", watercolor

Honorable mentions: "Spring Awakening" an oil painting by Amy Roberts, "Sunflower Frenzy" a photo by Marilyn Cloran, "Massachusetts Politics", an oil painting by Richard Pohl, and "Alley Steps" a watercolor by Jerilynn Morgan. Also awarded: The Marian Court Award: "Summer nd Clouds" a pastel painting by Carmela Martin.

Fall Schedule, 2010

The Fall Show: We opened on Sept. 23rd, and the show will run to Oct. 18th, at Marian Court College (MCC). Viewing from 2:30 to 7:00 on weekdays.

Our second demo: Oct. 12th, from 6:30 to 8:00, at MCC, Mercy Center. This will be a critique session, led by artist/teachers Virginia Hill and Bob Oliver. Artists are invited to bring a works in progress, and your questions about how to finish the piece! No charge, but we do pass the hat to defray costs.

Our third demo: Nov. 16th: Robin Samiljan will explain the encaustic process. Robin has consistently won awards with this process in our shows. She teaches at Monserrat College.

Our Holiday Party: December 15th at the Nahant Country Club. Members and their guests will be welcomed at this gala event, which is also our annual meeting!

Our first demo of the season "Soup to Nuts"was a great success. Attended by over 30 members and friends, many questions were asked and answered about using a grid, matting and framing, and photography for submissions.............We are now gearing up for the October demo, "A Critique Session" on how to improve or finish paintings. Members and friends are invited to bring a works in progress, and information on intention and questions about the work. Paintings will be selected randomly for the critique. Well known local artists and teachers, Virginia Hill and Bob Oliver will direct the session. Date and time: Tuesday, Oct. 12. 7:00 t0 8:30, at Marian Court College.

First Fall Workshop

First Fall Workshop: Our first demo/workshop will be on Sept. 14th at 6:30, at Marian Court College, Mercy Center, beginning at 6:30. "From Soup to Nuts" will offer info on how to transfer an image to a canvas using grids, by Ron Harrison, how to mat and frame, by Wendy Snow-Lang from Art Corner in Salem, and how to photograph the finished work for submissions, by award winning photographers, Rick and Marilyn Cloran. Open to the public! Free admission, but we do "pass the hat"!

Fall Show

Members, remember to bring your art to take-in on Tuesday, Sept. 21 between 2:00 to 4:00, and 6:00 to 7:30. Judging will happen on the 22nd, and we open on Sept. 23rd at 6:30. Membership dues will be accepted at take-in. If you're not a member, here is a chance to join. Show drop off is at Mercy Center, Marian Court College, 35 Littles Point Road, in Swampscott.

Class Update

This just in: Ron Harrison will begin his art class on Sept. 16th at the Tabernacle Church in Salem. Refer to previous post.
